Job Summary:
The Analytical Chemist primary role is to follow the testing and sampling producers as set out in the Standard Operating Produces for the faciality. The results generated for each sample must be reported promptly, accurately and proficiently.
Responsibilities and Duties
To perform and carry out the required procedures to generate accurate analytical data for samples presented to the laboratory for testing. This includes, but is not limited to, instrument calibration, preventive maintenance, and the data analysis for each test performed. From time to time, the Analytical Chemist may fulfill the duties typically performed by the Fields Analysts.
- Sample Receiving: Work closely with the Field Analyst for the transfer and logging of samples in to the PureVita Labs facility in accordance with internal procedures and the “Seed to Sale” regulations stipulated by the RI DOH
- Sample Preparation: Prepares samples for analysis using a variety of sample preparation devices and techniques such as extraction, freezer milling, grinding and microwave digestion.
- Cannabinoid Profiling: Run UHPLC technology for the quantitative cannabinoid profiling, using photo diode array detection for confirming peak purity and data integrity
- Terpene Profiling: Utilize GC-MS-MS with headspace injection for both the qualitative and quantitative analysis of terpenes in cannabis samples
- Residual Solvent Testing: Utilize GC-MS-MS with headspace injection for the analysis of residue solvents in products containing cannabinoids
- Testing for Volatile Pesticides: Use GC-MS-MS with liquid injection for the quantitative analysis of volatile pesticides in cannabis containing products
- Testing for Non-Volatile Pesticides: Use LC-MS-MS for the quantitative analysis of non-volatile pesticides in cannabis containing products
- Water Activity Measurement: Use a Water Activity measuring device to determine the water activity in cannabis samples
- Elemental Analysis: Use ICP-MS technology, for the quantitative analysis of the elements listed in the RIDOH regulations pertaining to the analysis of Cannabis products
- Microbiological testing: Use microbiology plate and count and/or qPCR techniques to quantify/detect the appropriate microbiological species stipulated in the RIDOH regulations pertaining to the analysis of Cannabis products.
- Data Reporting: Ensure that the analytical data and test results have passed the relevant QC data checks before uploading data in to the relevant data management/LIMS system. Negative results, which can lead to the required destruction of non-saleable materials, need addressed via established protocols.
