Job Summary:

  • Field analysts will begin their workday at the lab but perform the majority of their work at cannabis cultivation and processing facilities, where they work directly with clients to carefully collect representative samples of cannabis and hemp from production batches
  • Samples will then be securely transported by field analysts to PureVita’s lab, where field analysts are required to upload all relevant sampling data to the laboratory LIMs system prior to testing.
  • Due to the scientific nature of PureVita’s sampling and field analysis procedures, all field analysts are required to have basic background education in biological sciences or chemistry.
  • Some previous experience with cannabis or hemp cultivation is desirable, but not required. All newly hired field analysts must successfully complete PureVita’s preliminary training program to demonstrate working knowledge of applicable state regulations, sterile specimen acquisition techniques, and other
  • As representatives of PureVita Labs who deal directly with our clients, our field analysts are trusted to develop positive relationships and working partnerships with our clients. Field analysts will work in conjunction with our marketing and sales division to ensure that our client’s specific needs are met.

Responsibilities and Duties
Sample Collection:

  • Perform on-site sampling in accordance with state regulations, lab operating procedures, and a pre-determined customized client sampling and analysis plan
  • Appropriately package and label representative samples for processing with unique batch ID on-site at client’s facility
  • Maintain sterility and proper chain of custody of samples in transit from client cultivation or processing facility to the laboratory in accordance with state-mandated “Seed-to-Sale” tracking measures
  • Input individual sample ID information into the laboratory’s LIMs system

Customer Relations:

  • Respect and maintain client confidentiality at all times (specifically regarding any proprietary cultivation information that is observed or voluntarily supplied by the client for purposes of establishing a customized sampling and analysis plan)
  • Senior field analysts will work with clients prior to harvest to determine their sampling needs and create a sampling plan (e.g. sorting product into similar batches, requested analyses, sample information)
  • Ensure that client requests and sampling processes are compliant with industry regulations
  • Work with sales/marketing representatives to build and enhance client relations by maintaining appropriate communication and timely responsiveness to client needs

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • A minimum completion of at least two years of college coursework preferred, with basic knowledge of chemistry and/or plant biology
  • Must satisfactorily complete required Field Analyst preliminary training (conducted during first 2 weeks of employment) and demonstrate understanding (may require passing an internal written exam) prior to active sampling
  • Must have strong client relationship management skills
  • Proof of an excellent driving record and a valid driver’s license are required
  • Facile with basic office computer applications (Word, Excel) for data entry (appropriate training will be administered for LIMs system data entry)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Job Summary:

The Analytical Chemist primary role is to follow the testing and sampling producers as set out in the Standard Operating Produces for the faciality. The results generated for each sample must be reported promptly, accurately and proficiently.

Responsibilities and Duties

To perform and carry out the required procedures to generate accurate analytical data for samples presented to the laboratory for testing. This includes, but is not limited to, instrument calibration, preventive maintenance, and the data analysis for each test performed. From time to time, the Analytical Chemist may fulfill the duties typically performed by the Fields Analysts.

  • Sample Receiving: Work closely with the Field Analyst for the transfer and logging of samples in to the PureVita Labs facility in accordance with internal procedures and the “Seed to Sale” regulations stipulated by the RI DOH
  • Sample Preparation: Prepares samples for analysis using a variety of sample preparation devices and techniques such as extraction, freezer milling, grinding and microwave digestion.
  • Cannabinoid Profiling: Run UHPLC technology for the quantitative cannabinoid profiling, using photo diode array detection for confirming peak purity and data integrity
  • Terpene Profiling: Utilize GC-MS-MS with headspace injection for both the qualitative and quantitative analysis of terpenes in cannabis samples
  • Residual Solvent Testing: Utilize GC-MS-MS with headspace injection for the analysis of residue solvents in products containing cannabinoids
  • Testing for Volatile Pesticides: Use GC-MS-MS with liquid injection for the quantitative analysis of volatile pesticides in cannabis containing products
  • Testing for Non-Volatile Pesticides: Use LC-MS-MS for the quantitative analysis of non-volatile pesticides in cannabis containing products
  • Water Activity Measurement: Use a Water Activity measuring device to determine the water activity in cannabis samples
  • Elemental Analysis: Use ICP-MS technology, for the quantitative analysis of the elements listed in the RIDOH regulations pertaining to the analysis of Cannabis products
  • Microbiological testing: Use microbiology plate and count and/or qPCR techniques to quantify/detect the appropriate microbiological species stipulated in the RIDOH regulations pertaining to the analysis of Cannabis products.
  • Data Reporting: Ensure that the analytical data and test results have passed the relevant QC data checks before uploading data in to the relevant data management/LIMS system. Negative results, which can lead to the required destruction of non-saleable materials, need addressed via established protocols.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemistry or Biology related discipline
  • A minimum of 3 years analytical laboratory experience
  • Experience with using UHPLC
  • Experience with GC-MS as both a quantitative and qualitative tool
  • Experience using LC-MS-MS
  • Experience with elemental analysis using ICP-MS technology with microwave sample digestion
  • Experience and understating of microbiology plate and count and qPCR techniques
  • Experience with data management using a client server-based protocol with LIMS integration
  • Experience at troubleshooting and maintaining analytical instrumentation
  • People management skills
  • Facile with basic office computer applications (Word, Excel)

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

The Lab Technician will be an hourly position whose primary responsibility is to support our Lab Analysts who perform a variety of tests (e.g. Heavy Metals, Pesticides, Microbiology, etc. using analytical chemistry equipment such as Gas Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, etc.).  The Lab Technician will support our Lab Analysts in the areas of sample preparation, equipment calibration and preparation, ordering and managing supplies, and other various tasks in the laboratory to help our Analysts operate as efficiently as possible.  Great teamwork, communication, attention to detail and follow through are critical characteristics for this role.

  • Sample Receiving: Receive samples at the laboratory, enter data into our internal tracking system.
  • Sample Preparation:
    • Begin the sample preparation process by weighing and logging all samples into our internal tracking system, labeling, transporting and storing samples.
    • Additional sample preparation activities may include pipetting solvents, using sonicators, vortexes and rockers to assisting in sample extraction, performing microwave digestion on samples prior to Heavy Metals analysis, etc.
  • Sample Equipment Management: Maintain all sample collection equipment. Prep sample collection kit(s) prior to each sample pickup event and clean all equipment upon return including operating laboratory’s autoclave.
  • Supply ordering: Assist in managing lab supply inventory including ordering lab supplies.
  • Lab Maintenance and Sample Disposal:
    • Operate the laboratory grade dishwasher to ensure all lab equipment is sterilized and ready for use.
    • Calibrate certain equipment and perform various temperature log checks on a daily basis
    • Assist in the disposal of sample waste according to our lab standard operating procedures
  • Other: Other various lab related tasks as needed.
